Miami is not known for its hip-hop clubs. Miami is is home of some of the most legendary EDM nightclubs, and hip hop has definitely taken a back seat.
While we certainly have some work to do if we want to catch up to places like Atlanta or Houston, there are venues out there giving temporary and permanent homes to hip-hop acts, both local and national.
Many of the clubs on this list have a diverse array of programming that extends well beyond hip-hop, but all of the clubs below offer a haven for hip hop fans and rappers alike.
Founded by Chris Paciello, Rockwell aims to bring a unique entertainment experience to its audience. As Paciello said “Rockwell is bringing something different. We are not another megaclub. We are not DJ driven, we are focusing on the experience.” From a mixed musical format to a variety of live performances, the Miami Beach club have always tried to focus on bringing great experiences to a smaller, selective crowd with just a capacity to hold 450. Where quantity lacks, Rockwell’s quality surely makes up for it. One of the best Hip Hop clubs in town, Rockwell will give you a great night to remember. With a capacity of only 220, Mokai is definitely one of the smaller clubs in town, but that doesn’t stop it from being a great Hip Hop venue. While the venue is essentially a bar without a real dance floor, you will still find plenty of space for you to dance and have a great time. Mokai does not have big name DJ’s playing regularly but rest assured, the music gets pretty turnt. If you feel too sober to party on, a grand showcase bar will set you up with anything you need to loosen up. The line gets pretty long on busy nights so make sure you arrive early or get a table to avoid long waiting time.
A local and tourist favorite; this off-the-beaten-path venue is a Hip Hop lovers gem. With no cover and best priced drinks in the area, many people flock to Purdy for a more conservative night out. Everyone is equal at Purdy and there is no VIP status. The crowd is a more laidback one but everyone there still knows how to have a good time. If you want a time out from the usually more aggressive and intense nightclub experiences, but still want to listen to some good Hip Hop and have a good time, Purdy would be your undisputed first choice.
A staple in the South Beach nightlife scene, Dream has regularly attracted celebrities such as Lebron James, Kim Kardashian and Usher since its opening back in 2007. The DJs spinning in the club are mostly locals that have made a name for themselves in the Hip Hop world, but occasionally major players like 50 cent and Memphis Bleek do fly in to take over the helm. A state-of-art sound system and LED lighting sets the perfect vibe for partygoers to dance the night away. As their website claims, Dream is “Exclusive yet unpretentious, sexy yet sinful, classic yet very contemporary.” Book your table for Dream and get ready for a memorable South Beach experience.
While Story mainly plays dance music on most nights, they do occasionally feature some top tier Hip Hop talent.
