Tao and Beauty & Essex To Open In LA

Tao has been a nightlife destination in Las Vegas for years, drawing Angelenos with its surprisingly good pan-Asian fare and sceney ambiance. The New York City concept is now apparently slated for the Dream Hotel in Hollywood, no surprise really since sister concept Beauty & Essex was already confirmed back in August 2015.

What Tao’s entrance into the City of Angels means is that Hollywood’s nightlife scene is about to take a turn toward the Empire state of mind. The “vibe dining” restaurant boasts everything from sushi rolls and dim sum to more composed plates. No word on whether Tao will bring its entire nightclub to Hollywood, but with the limited space, it seems unlikely.

At the moment, there’s no projected opening date for Tao, though Beauty & Essex was originally slated to open this year. According to hotel developers Hollywood IRC, the project is currently under construction.

In the meantime, you can satisfy all your nightlife needs with Discotech.

Nightingale Plaza (Formerly Greystone Manor) Now Open

Nightingale Plaza is sbe’s latest nightclub concept located in the former Greystone Manor space, which is being reimagined as an avant-garde, nightclub named after Hollywood’s after-party-rich Bird Streets.

The entrance leads to an elegant lounge with surreal wallpaper strewn with phantom limbs, flowers with eyes and the occasional extraterrestrial dinosaur. sbe enlisted the renowned Rockwell Group for the design. Inside, guests can lounge, dine, or dance in four distinct environments. Between a sculpted fire place, mid-century banquettes and the state-of-the-art kinetic ceiling covered in 15 folding mirrored panels over the dance floor, there is something for everyone. The ceiling starts in a closed position and over the course of the evening, as the energy builds, the mirrored planes gradually unfold revealing a digital light show above creating a dramatic reflective landscape.

The most Instagrammable feature is the Rockwell Group-designed wallpaper, inspired by exotic foliage and magical surrealism. Plus, there’s a photo booth, lined in the wallpaper, that can easily fit eight-plus people. But have a game plan upon entering, because mastering the boomerang-like gif setup can take a minute. It’s only a matter of time before Nightingale gains mention in a hip-hop song, just like Drake and the Game did for its predecessor, Greystone Manor.

The property is poised to be the next step for elite Hollywood, where refined elegance meets tastefully crafted technology. This high-energy concept will provide the world-class luxury sbe patrons have come to expect, elevated by cutting edge technology and entertainment.

“This foundation will meet an unparalleled technical and creative program that we’re confident will firmly set the venue apart from any other location.” says Costas Charalambous, President of sbe Nightlife.

Nightingale is open from 10:00pm to 2:00am Wednesday and Saturday nights.

New SF Club Halcyon Opens in SOMA near Audio SF

Life will soon return to the former BeatBox space at 314 11th St., as it prepares to become Halcyon, a new entertainment venue run by a local nightlife veteran.

The space’s new owner, Gina Milano, said it was on her radar for awhile. Over the past two decades, she’s owned and operated a handful of restaurants and nightclubs around San Francisco, including Le Club, a faux members-only club in Nob Hill; Bambuddha Lounge, a precursor to Chambers in the Phoenix Hotel; and Restaurant Maroc, an Upper Haight lounge serving Moroccan-Californian food and cocktails.

Most recently, she worked next door, helping Audio nightclub and its sister bar, Bergerac, get off the ground. The owners of BeatBox knew that she was looking to branch out on her own again, and as soon as they were ready to sell, they called her up.

Rather than simply launching a nightclub, Milano sees this new venue as an opportunity to employ a wide variety of highly creative people.

“I love being entertained, and I love hyper-creative people, and I love being hyper-creative,” she said.

On Friday and Saturday nights, Halcyon will be a dance club, with electronic DJs and semi-live performances. But in the vein of nearby Public Works, Milano also plans to host weekly entertainment events like a Wednesday-night cabaret, complete with live dance performances, booths with bottle service and 56 cabaret tables.

She’s also considering hosting dance classes on certain nights, including different types of line dancing in the evening and yoga-dance classes that will keep the space active during the day. And of course, Halcyon will be available for corporate and private events as well.

To accommodate all of these different uses, the layout and the lighting are being designed to allow the space to easily transform from one offering to another.

With brick walls and a steel support structure, it’s a “very tough, raw, industrial-looking space,” so Milano and her team are working to give it a “nice shiny veneer,” she said. LED lights are being added to the support beams, and she’s installing a “state-of-the-art” projection mapping system.

“I’m single-handedly keeping LED producers in China at work right now,” Milano joked, describing the look of the finished space as “a tough bitch in designer clothing.”

Choosing a name that symbolized her wide-ranging offerings wasn’t easy, but Halcyon has many relevant meanings, Milano said. It’s “a cool word” that’s used to refer to blissful, carefree memories or a golden era, as well as the name of a popular dance record store in Brooklyn, where visiting DJs in the ’80s and ’90s would commonly stop in before shows.

It’s also the name of two different birds: one from Greek mythology, and the other, Halcyonidae, a family of the African Kingfisher. The latter bird will grace one wall of the venue, in the form of an abstract mural.

If all goes according to plan, Milano said, Halcyon will host its first private parties during Halloween weekend, and open to the public for the first time on the weekend of Nov. 5th-6th.

Mighty SF Closed – Reopening as Great Northern

After purchasing Utah Street nightclub Mighty in May and closing its doors at the end of July, the owners of Monarch are reopening the warehouse nightclub tomorrow night, with a whole new name, look and feel.

In a video sent to Monarch’s email subscribers today, the ownership team offered a sneak peek inside the new Utah Street dance club, which has been renamed The Great Northern.

Like Mighty, the new venue will offer live shows, DJs and performances. Its new concept is “future deco,” weaving technology and modern aesthetics into an “old theater” feel.

Key features include a stained-glass window behind the spacious bar that uses LED panels to mimic a real window, a custom sound system, more space to dance, and cozy nooks throughout.

Time Nightclub Grand Opening in the OC this Weekend

Nightlife in Orange County is about to experience a major overhaul. A much needed one at that. In the early 2000s there weren’t many choices for those that wanted to stay out dancing and drinking past 10 p.m. You could wait in line at Dennis Rodman’s club on PCH, Josh Slocum’s, drive to Anaheim and mix it up with the over 18 crowd at the Boogie, or wait in line to stand four deep at the bar at The Yard House and dance when nobody was looking.

That all changed 13 years ago when Sutra opened at “Triangle Square.” Orange County finally had a place to party. A place to see Lil’ Jon growl into the mic or LMFAO spray champagne, to watch Ludacris promote his liquor and Paul Oakenfold whip the crowd into a dancing mob. TIME Nightclub Orange County

Sutra, once a restaurant, had to be turned into a nightclub. It was never a perfect fit, but Identity Management group was able to make it successful for over a decade. This past weekend Sutra closed its doors.

Now rebranded and completely made over, The Triangle has attracted restaurants like La Vida Cantina, Tavern+Bowl and H20 Sushi to fill the shopping center once filled with Virgin Records and NikeTown.

Identity Management group is set to open their new venture TIME Nightclub this Thursday to the beats of German DJ Icon Markus Schulz.

You enter TIME on the street level of the shopping center through doors near the current valet and are greeted by large LED walls that tower overhead and wrap around to the ceiling. The first thing you notice upon entering the main area is how cavernous and open the giant space under the dome of the former NikeTown feels. It is massive.

We wanted to bring an amazing experience to Southern California, a true nightclub, that is exciting from the second you walk through the doors,” Steven says. “The canvas of the space helped inspire our design team to create the unique layout. We are really striving to bring a new era of nightlife to Southern California and we believe we have accomplished that.”

They definitely did. The palate is bold. Floor-to-ceiling kelly green painted wood logs mark the entrance to the ladies room, ten times oversized zebra patterns line the back wall, and a rose gold tinted mirror backs the bar. The club also boasts a lounge within the Ladies room that has access to the bar. No more standing in line for drinks on “Girls Nights Out.” TIME Nightclub Orange County

Club-goers will be astonished by the magnitude of lighting displays and art pieces that breathe life into Time Nightclub. It not only boasts a state-of-the-art Funktion One sound system, but a fully immersive lighting experience, designed by Steve Lieberman from SJ Lighting, that will really add that “wow” factor of this spot. “Without giving away too much, the special effects will allow guests to feel like they are in the middle of the party from any point within the club,” Steven says.

The football stadium size LED screen (20’x30′) making up the DJ wall and the over dance floor programmable chandelier with over 5,000 programmable orbs are further evidence of the “wow” response TIME will surely induce.

Orange County was in need of a fun injection and it’s about TIME this club opened. See you this Thursday.

New Nightclub Confession Opens in Hollywood

Chris Breed (Cabana Club, Maui & Sons) is back in Hollywood, this time at the swanky new Confession, which officially opens on June 5 inside the Pig ‘N Whistle space behind the Egyptian theater.

Breed’s Sunset Entertainment Group takes over the historic interior, adding a few clubbier elements like a confession booth (actually a Twitter-ready photo booth), state-of-the-art sound system, and updated drink program by Frederic Vial. By day, the place remains Pig ‘N Whistle, but starting from 9 p.m. on Monday, Friday, and Saturday evenings, transforms to Confession.

With a cathedral-like interior of hand-carved woodwork, the juxtaposition between late night revelry and the place’s “holier” elements probably won’t be ironic to anyone hanging out at the tables (don’t worry, no religious icons anywhere). Want to skip the velvet rope? Hit the website for more information.

XIV Summer Sessions is Back at Boardwalk

Summer’s arrived – which means the return of day drinking, sun dresses, tank tops, and yacht parties.

Don’t own a yacht? SBE has you covered with their new night/dayclub concept – Boardwalk.

Located at the old Colony at Cahuenga and Hollywood, SBE’s roofless new party spot is primed for some good old Sunday debauchery that’s got all the awesomeness of a boat party without the seasickness. Summer’s here and XIV Summer Sessions is back in full swing.

Imagine you’re standing on the blond-wood deck of a yacht gone full Jordan Belfort. Let’s see, there’s thundering beats from big-name DJs in a dinghy draped with bikini-wrapped dancers. Confetti dumping. Bottle service delivered on wooden lifeboats. Champagne spraying. Anchors, life preservers and… assorted Hollywood-issued flotation devices.

So when you need to extend a weekend beyond normal limits, you’ll head here with friends and enter XIV Yacht Club—that’s what they’re calling their Sunday party, and each week the vibe will change to invoke a different “port,” like Maui or Saint-Tropez. For Memorial Day, it’s Camp Pendleton.

Saturday nights will be Asian night, put on by Go Productions LA. Friday nights TBA.

Foxtail Pool Club Announces Grand Opening Dates

The newest pool party in Las Vegas splashes down on March 13.

Foxtail Pool Club at SLS Las Vegas brings a lineup of electronic dance music heavyweights, including Swedish DJ Steve Angello, formerly of Swedish House Mafia, house music deejay Erick Morillo of “Fun” by Da Mob fame and English trance music specialist Gareth Emery.

Technically, Foxtail is the resort’s pool during the week and transforms into a club Fridays through Sundays. SLS opened right before Labor Day weekend, missing out on the warm weather party season.

The retro-inspired space takes up 43,000 square feet with a pool bar anchoring it. Hang out in one of the 25 cabanas, two VIP cabanas, 30 daybeds or “floating” lily pads while catching rays.

Stick around until night when the wall of the neighboring parking garage and hotel tower turns into a canvas for a 3D mapping show.

While the pool party starts the waves in March, the official grand opening comes on Friday, April 24, with Rebecca & Fiona, the Swedish duo whose singles include “Luminary Ones” and “Bullets.” Morillo kicks off the Sunday party on April 26.

Get on the guestlist or book bottle service at Foxtail Pool Club via the Discotech Mobile App.

Project LA Unveiled Tonight

The first Gensler-designed nightclub in the world is now live right here in Hollywood. Welcome Project LA, which launches tonight in the legendary Roxbury space along Hollywood Blvd huddled in between Hemingway’s and Beso. A collaboration between Boulevard Nightlife Group and Project London, it features an immersive experience with angular lines, next-level lazer lights over a modest dance floor, and a smattering of tables with clear views of the space.

It feels edgy and futuristic because that’s the point — no exposed incandescents or weathered wood in sight. An illuminated DJ booth looks over the dance floor while a mesmerizing triangle light show done by V Squared Labs hangs low above revelers. Check out this cocktail menu, though prices reflect UK pounds. One wonders, which celebrity will be the first one to order the F*** Me I’m Famous? (A cinnamon fireball served with pop rocks candy).

For something decided non vodka-soda like, try the Don Julio Paloma, a not-so-subtle promotion of a known tequila brand, but shaken with lime and grapefruit for a simple sipper. For nightly DJ schedules download the Discotech app or check on Project LA’s website.
