Top 10 Best EDM (Electronic Dance) Clubs in Los Angeles

Are you having severe No-chella and No-EDC withdrawals and missing all the “UNTZ UNTZ” due to this pandemic quarantine? No worries, we’re here to help you out, and to prepare you for that glorious day in the near future when your favorite nightclubs reopen. Check out our guide below to the hottest electronic music nightclub venues in the City of Angels, updated for 2020.

What are the best EDM clubs / venues in Los Angeles in 2020?

Looking to go on an epic bass-dropping night out at one of the best EDM nightclubs in Los Angeles? We’ve got you covered. A global destination and meeting point to blend together the best of world’s diverse cultures, as well as one of the music industry capitals of the world, Los Angeles is home to some of the top electronic nightclubs in the nation. Here are the ten best ones that you MUST check out.

1. Academy – Hollywood

Academy Nightclub dance floor

The former home of Create, Academy’s neon hue, sleek lounge areas, and glossy finishes make sure it is one of the most modern and elegant warehouse-style nightclub designs in all of the world. It is the Hollywood home of Insomniac – the same company that brought you the biggest Las Vegas EDM festival: Electric Daisy Carnival / EDC. The 20,000 square feet venue can hold over 2,000 partygoers, and the recurring presence of A-list DJs along with a giant LED ceiling (yes, we said ceiling not wall) means Academy is a can’t-miss venue always spinning out the best tunes and vibes. An Asian-themed outdoor patio area behind the main stage allows guests to take a breather whenever things get too hot on the floor. Book tables and sign up for guestlist at Academy! We often have Academy promo codes for certain shows.

2. Exchange LA – Downtown LA

Dance floor / stage @ Exchange LA Nightclub

Since its reopening in 2010 after being the former home of the Los Angeles Stock Exchange, Exchange LA has established itself as one of the top EDM clubs in the world. A multi-level venue that has a 1500 capacity, six bars spreading over four floors and reportedly the most restrooms in a nightclub in the city, many top DJs such as Armin van Buuren, Dash Berlin and Don Diablo have graced its stage. The GA line stretches long around both sides of the building on a good night, so we usually recommend getting on the guest list and arriving early, or getting tickets in advance. We often have promo codes for Exchange available here. Book tables and sign up for free guestlist at Exchange here.

3. Sound Nightclub – Hollywood

Sound Nightclub dance floor - Los Angeles / Hollywood

Sound Nightclub showcases a variety of EDM genres, from deep house music to techno to industrial to progressive house. Set in an intimate, dimly lit, and meticulously decorated space, Sound brings in house music promotions companies to throw parties regularly For example, Tuesday nights features weekly Space Yacht event with an eclectic mix of sounds incorporating more bass, while Friday and Saturday nights bring more deep and tech house to Sound. Discotech frequently has guest list for Sound events before 11:00PM. Sound stays open until 3 or 4am on the weekends and until 2am on Tuesdays – you can sign up for the free guestlists and book tables directly on our webapp or mobile app.

4. Avalon – Hollywood

Avalon Nightclub DJ & dance floor

Avalon’s major makeover in 2003 has turned the club from a musical performance theatre to one of the best dance spaces in town. Regular 18+/19+ nights attract a younger crowd than most other clubs in the area, and lines form deep into the Spanish colonial facade almost every night. A long bar offers drinks on either side of the room to keep it going for partygoers. DJ rosters are getting better by the week with its ever growing fanbase. Be sure to check out the place if you’re in town, especially after its million dollar renovation. Use promo code DISCO to save 10% on all tickets purchased at AvalonHollywood.com. Book tables and sign up for discounted guestlist for Avalon on our mobile app or webapp.

5. Raspoutine – West Hollywood

Raspoutine Nightclub dance floor - Los Angeles, CA

First established in Paris in 1965, the Raspoutine brand boasts locations in Rome, Marrakesh, Monaco, and – as of 2018 – Los Angeles. Each location takes on the same dark, mysterious, Russian parlor theme; Hollywood A-listers have been attracted to the high-end charms of each venue for decades, from the Rita Hayworths of the 1970s to the Ariana Grandes of the 2020s. Unlike the European locations, the Los Angeles chapter of Raspoutine serves no food: it is purely a Euro-house nightclub and drinking destination with cocktails, vodka, and French champagne. The 1,600 square foot split-level room oozes blood red walls and floors, banquettes, accented tables, plushy walls, with large matroshka dolls scattered throughout. In fact, Raspoutine is so all-in on the Russian spirit that it feels as though a double-spy character from a Tolstoy novel might burst in at any moment to order celebratory shots of vodka at the bar.

6. Nameless – Santa Monica

Nameless Nightclub dance floor. -Santa Monica, CA

Not much has been written about this place… just yet. Nameless is a relatively new techno bar/lounge in Santa Monica that’s rapidly growing in popularity. Why? First off, few places in LA truly cater to crowds searching for underground sounds: some of the best deep house and underground scene DJs in LA have spun here with little fanfare. Second, there are few house music spots west of the 405, and none as classy or as spacious as Nameless (although TBH it’s still much smaller than any of the Hollywood house spots). Nameless has a dedicated dance floor space for househeads and offers bottle service and cheap entry on most nights. However, it’s best perk is that it is located on the same Main Street drag as many other popular bars in Santa Monica, which makes it a great place to start, continue, or end a barhopping night on the Westside. As a result, the crowd at Nameless usually skews younger, drawing in the college and recent post-graduate scene.

7. Palladium – Hollywood

dance floor and stage of Palladium nightclub

One of the most iconic concert halls in all of America, the Hollywood Palladium is a large concert venue that hosts EDM artists but also features artists from countless other musical genres. It was built in a Streamline Modern, Art Deco style and includes an 11,200 square foot (1040 m²) dance floor with a roomy mezzanine and second-floor level with room for up to 4,000 people. The theater was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2016, and chances are your concert-loving parents (and even grandparents) can regale you with stories of catching a show there once upon a time. The Palladium does offer bottle service on their VIP balcony for electronic music shows, and you can reserve a prime-view table for your favorite artist’s upcoming show in our app here.

8. Shrine – Downtown LA

shrine los angeles nightclub facing dj crowd

The Shrine Auditorium is a concert hall right next to USC in downtown Los Angeles. They have top talent performing regularly from EDM DJ’s to Hip Hop artists. It’s a huge venue that packs a ton of people and throws one heck of a party. There is no bottle service here, but there are four bars spread out around the place – two on the main floor and two more upstairs on the balcony section. The lighting production is state-of-the-art here and is definitely a sight to see.  Check the Discotech webapp for a list of upcoming events and DJs at The Shrine.

9. The Buffalo Club – Santa Monica

A decade or more before the speakeasy fad, gourmet comfort food craze, London private club vogue and mixology ubiquitousness…. there was The Buffalo Club. Ahead of its time and now perfect for the times, The Buffalo Club remains above the fray yet magically still under the radar. Numerous film, TV, music, and tech companies in L.A. have moved into their now-gentrified Santa Monica neighborhood, driving business upward and thus allowing the restaurant/lounge to extend its primary restaurant dining format into late-night house music ultra-lounge on weekends. Still, The Buffalo Club has steadfastly maintained its intimate Prohibition-era allure, all while adding modern amenities like plush seating and VIP bottle service to introduce a younger, hipper generation to its timeless L.A. charms.

10. Belasco – Downtown LA

EDM concert at belasco theater, Los Angeles, CA

Located in the heart of downtown Los Angeles, the Belasco is a spectacular multi-room event and entertainment complex. Thanks to a recent $12 million restoration, the Belasco Theater was able to retain most of its original dramatic architecture and detailing, and management has invested in putting on numerous show dates with mid-tier and top-tier music talent across all genres. The venue houses the largest D&B Audiotechnik Sound System in Southern California as well as a state-of-the art lighting system, which makes its live production creative potential for large-scale electronic music gatherings immense. For this reason – and because it is a ticketing-friendly 18-and-over venue – some of the notable EDM genre event production outfits with cult followings (e.g. Bassrush, Desert Hearts, Minimal Effort) host their touring events here when they drop in to the City of Angels.

Honorable Mention: Avalon Bardot (Hollywood) – afterhours

Avalon Bardot is the after ours spot located above Avalon Hollywood. The after party starts at 2 AM. Book tables and sign up for discounted guestlist for Avalon on our mobile app or webapp.

What Cities in the US Have Nightlife Past 2 AM?

While quite a few cities across America have nightclubs and bars that are open past 2am, Las Vegas, New York City, Los Angeles, and Miami are the four nightlife capitals of the U.S., if not the entire world. Each of these cities boasts nightlife venue variety for all kinds of musical, ethnic, and socioeconomic tastes numbering in the several hundreds, with new ones popping up every day.

It is true that most L.A. nightclub venues stop serving alcohol at around 1:30am and close at 2am, but there are few that stay open past 2am until 3–4am – specifically, Academy, Exchange LA, and Avalon. In Las Vegas, New York, and Miami, most nightclubs stay open well past 3am, with the hottest and most popular ones going until 5–6am. There are a couple venues in each city that stay open til dawn, such as Space Miami, and Drai’s After Hours.

For those of you night owls visiting a major U.S. city to do some partying, the Discotech app is an essential planning tool for seeing how late your selected clubs will be open. You can use our app to browse club and pool party events by specific days of the week, holidays, or dates you’ll be in town. Then, you can even take the next step within the app, using its features to buy tickets, sign up for guest lists, or even reserve tables if you’re feeling super-fancy. The app event info refreshes daily, pulling from various entertainment online resources including the official websites of the clubs themselves, so it’s always current, accurate, and in the know. We are live in the four aforementioned top-tier cities and six other second-tier markets in the U.S., and we work with nearly 200 nightlife venues, including every one of the Top 10 nightlife venues mentioned in the Forbes list and 95% of the list’s Top 100.

If you’re interested in going deeper down the nightlife rabbit hole, you can check out all the latest nightclub news across America here: Nightlife News by Discotech – the #1 Nightlife App.

The perfect union of musical minds, one karmic meeting in a recording studio resulted in Cosmic Gate’s Big Bang moment. It set brothers‐in-sound Nic Chagall and Bossi on a rapidly expanding path – one that’s seen them evolve into Germany’s most consistently successful electronic music duo. It’s catapulted their Cosmological productions to the highest reaches of the official sales charts and seen them remix the compositions of revered Hollywood composers such as ‘Avatar’s James Horner. Through their atomic on-stage synergism, Nic & Bossi have created countless unforgettable dance floor nights. They’ve sold out arenas & festival halls, conquered EDM capitals, hosted their own stages at major festivals and 10 years into their career became the highest climbers on DJ Mag’s Top 100 chart. Driven by their hugely received albums, club‐busting singles (incl. ‘Not Enough Time’, ‘Body of Conflict’ and ‘Over The Rainbow’) and scene-defining classics ‘Be Your Sound’, ‘Fire Wire’ and ‘Exploration of Space’, their place in EDM’s hall of fame has long been secured.

In 2011 – through their fifth artist album – the duo communicated a message to fans of border-free electronic music. The ‘Wake Your Mind’ maxim has since been embraced by untold thousands of clubbers and music lovers around the world, turning it into a groundswell movement. ‘WYM’ became the abbreviation‐of-choice for those wishing to exhibit a freethinking, more adaptable and advanced outlook to EDM. The album produced ‘Be Your Sound’ – a release which UK EDM bible MIXMAG said: “finally unseats ‘Fire Wire’ as Cosmic Gate’s best‐known-for track”. It scored an IDMA nom in 2012, with the JES-sung ‘Flying Blind’ following suit at the 2013 awards.

Exchange LA New Years Eve 2016/2017 – Duke Dumont

Ring in the New Year with Duke Dumont at Exchange in Downtown LA!

This event will not have a guestlist – we recommend buying your tickets here before prices go up.

Adam George Dyment, a.k.a. Duke Dumont is a British DJ and music producer, known worldwide for his single “Need U (100%)” which topped the UK Singles Chart in April of 2013. Duke Dumont is a master composer of house techno, and an underground hero in the British club scene. His “Need U (100%)” was nominated for Best Dance Recording at the Grammy Awards, but lost out to Anton Zaslavski, better known by his stage name, Zedd. His tracks regularly hit the top spots on the British music charts. Duke Dumont got his start in 2007, with world-famous producer Switch as his mentor. Duke Dumont began the way many electronic musicians do: by remixing pop songs and putting his own spin on the chart-topping hits of the day.
